Qumak raises safety standards at Gdańsk airport

Lech Walesy Gdansk QumakQumak will modernize a runway at Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, thanks to which it will be adapted to the second category (CAT II) approach of landing operations. It will facilitate airport operations in case of difficult weather conditions. Value of the project, completion of which is planned for mid-2015, is almost PLN 60 million net.

Modernization of runway at Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport

Airport in Gdansk selected an offer of Qumak S.A for modernization of a runway aiming at the implementation of the second category (CAT II), in which the airport will operate. In effect the planes using the airport will be able to more safely land in difficult atmospheric conditions and in considerably limited visibility. Additionally, applying by the contractor technologically advanced solutions will allow limiting the use of electric energy.


– Performing works at a runway is one of the elements necessary to achieve by the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport the II category. This project will lead to make our airport, as one out of few in Poland, meet such high standards of safety of take-off and landing operations. Our Airport will simultaneously become more modern and more environmentally friendly – said Tomasz Kloskowski, President of the Management Board of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.


Qumak will be responsible among others for performing energy-saving specialized navigation lighting with the use of intelligent low voltage technology and for modernization of already existing energy system at the airport. Within the scope of the order at the same time there is included modernization of a runway surface and raising its endurance, which will be performed by a specialized subcontractor. It will decrease limitations related with the weight of airplanes to which the airport provides service. The works will be organized in a way so that the airport can operate without interruptions. In accordance with the plan, they will last until June next year.

Realizations of Qumak S.A. within the scope of aviation infrastructure

Qumak has already performed a reconstruction of navigation lighting system in Rzeszów – Jasionka Airport and at airports in Katowice and Warsaw-Modlin, where in addition he delivered telecommunication and electric installations. Moreover, for the Lublin Airport in Świdnik the company performed a passenger terminal, implemented baggage system BHS and performed realization projects of electric and telecommunication installations.


Currently the company performs among others a comprehensive system of transport and registered luggage control (BHS) at Kraków-Balice airport and conducts reconstructions of BHS at Warsaw Chopin Airport – Terminal 1 adapting it to already existing system at the second terminal.
