New server infrastructure in the National Information Processing Center – National Research Institute

Qumak has implemented a modern server infrastructure in the National Information Processing Center – National Research Institute (OPI PIB). It will ensure a better access to scientific information and will help with creating IT systems for science and higher education. Value of the project exceeded PLN 800 000 net. The investment was financed from the EU means in the program Digital Poland.

Servers and disk array for the science sector

Qumak, as a general contractor, delivered to the OPI PIB four servers together with a server cabinet and a disk array equipped with 120 disks, with the possibility of extension up to 240. Back-up power supply of the delivered equipment will be provided by UPS of a minimal power of 11 kVA. Moreover, the Company realized the expansion of modular switches by additional access ports, which enlarged their efficiency. Final element of the project was an integration of the whole infrastructure with a production environment, so that it can be effectively used as a platform for applications and database.

– Modern IT infrastructure is a necessary element of functioning of every enterprise, in particular scientific institutions. When performing this project we applied the Easy Tier technology, which enables dynamic management of a place where data is recorded depending on an intensity of the use of an array. This will also allow a better management of the data processed by a scientific environment – says Jacek Suchenek, Vice President for Realizations in Qumak S.A.

OPI – National Research Institute collects and publishes updated information on the Polish science. To this aim, it conducts scientific research concerning the operations of scientific institutions, higher education units, as well as organizations supporting transfer of technologies. One of the tasks of the Institute is a comprehensive development of IT systems that support the development of science and higher education. Main recipient of the research is the Ministry of Science and Higher Education which uses this data as a tool for facilitating decision-making processes.
